The Witcher Season 1 Episode

With our three main characters all officially introduced to viewers, the journey for Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalorta) and Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) have begun to slowly intertwine in the third episode of the Netflix fantasy series.

While Geralt seems to believe he is the last of his kind, the episode opens with the miners of Temeria paying another witcher to find and exterminate a creature killing multiple townsfolk, but as he is drawn into a meat locker with shrieks and trails of blood, the witcher is killed by the unseen entity. While laying in bed next to a prostitute, who attaches his scars to the songs she’s heard from a traveling bard (see The Witcher episode 2 recap), the woman tells of a witcher sp...

Netflix Is Testing a Feature

The Netflix streaming interface allows you to pause a film or show, change the audio or subtitles, and jump forward or backward ten seconds in either direction. It does not allow you to change the speed you’re watching the show at, but that is reportedly something that could be available in the near future.

According to Android Police, some Android Netflix users now have a variable speed function added to their app. Those who are part of this smaller test have the option to watch content at either a slower speed, or a faster speed:

The sparsity of the reports and the fact that we don’t have the option yet on any device indicate this may be a limited server-side test. If you have it, you’ll get the option to slow down speed to 0.5x or 0...

‘The Irishman’ Review: Scorsese

'The Irishman' Review: Scorsese

‘The Irishman’ Review: Scorsese

Frank Sheeran was not a house painter — at least not in the vocational sense. In the criminal underworld, painting a house means whacking someone and, in the process, splattering their blood all over the walls and floor. As a young man, Frank was a truck driver by trade. That, after “house painting,” is probably the thing Frank does most in The Irishman — he drives. And all the driving Frank does throughout the film becomes The Irishman’s central metaphor for his (and our) journey through life.

This massive 209-minute film, which feels like a career summation for director Martin Scorsese and star Robert De Niro, is structured as a cinematic nesting doll of flashbacks...

‘Russian Doll’ Returning

Let’s play that Harry Nilsson song one more time! (Or maybe like 10 more times?)

It appears that Natasha Lyonne’s Nadia isn’t done looping through time just yet. Netflix announced (via Variety) that Russian Dolln’, one of Netflix’s most-discussed original series of recent years, will return for more episodes:

The Office:TV Show

Despite spending billions on original content — supposedly in the neighborhood of $12 billion this year, according to Variety — Netflix’s number one show is not any of the ones it’s created in-house. Or even a show that’s still on the air. It’s reruns of The Office, which ended its initial stint on NBC back in 2013. Six years later, The Office still reigns supreme, at least on Netflix.

That’s according to thWall Street Journal, which writes that The Office may eventually vanish from Netflix, because the show’s owner, NBCUniversal, is starting up a competitive streaming service:

Netflix Inc. may soon have to contemplate life without its No. 1 show. It’s The Office...
